On 8 July 2026, the PROPHET Final Conference took place at the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels, bringing together representatives of the European Commission, international organisations, ministries of health, researchers, healthcare professionals, patient organisations, and other key stakeholders to discuss the future implementation of personalised prevention across Europe. The conference marked the culmination of four years of collaboration within the PROPHET consortium and provided an opportunity to present the project’s main achievements, including the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), the Roadmap, the Policy Brief, and the Capacity Building Toolbox.
The event featured keynote contributions from Maria Pilar Aguar Fernandez (Director, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission) and Marco Marsella (Director, DG SANTE, European Commission), who highlighted the importance of translating research into practice and embedding personalised prevention within future European and national health policies. A video message from Natasha Azzopardi-Muscat (WHO Regional Office for Europe) further emphasised the need to complement technological innovation with comprehensive prevention policies that place citizens at the centre of healthcare systems.
The conference also hosted a high-level round table with representatives from European institutions and international organisations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), who discussed the key challenges identified in the SRIA and the actions proposed in the PROPHET Roadmap. Particular attention was given to strengthening governance, improving health data integration, developing dedicated competencies, ensuring equitable access to innovation, and translating scientific evidence into sustainable healthcare services.
A dedicated session involving representatives from several EU Member States offered valuable insights into national experiences and priorities for implementing personalised prevention. Participants exchanged views on opportunities, barriers, and practical solutions to integrate personalised prevention into national health systems, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and citizens.
The Final Conference represented not only the conclusion of the PROPHET project but also the beginning of a new phase, where the project’s recommendations and strategic outputs will continue to support the implementation of personalised prevention across Europe.
