A look back at PROPHET presence at personalised prevention events

The European Public Health Conference 2025 took place in Helsinki from 11 to 14 November 2025. Within this framework, the PROPHET project organised a workshop on 13 November, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., dedicated to the presentation of the final versions of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and the Roadmap. This workshop was chaired by Professor Stefania Boccia, UCSC and PROPHET coordinator, and Dr Astrid Vicente, PROPHET partner, who guided the discussions. Together, the panelists offered complementary perspectives spanning policy, research, health systems, data governance, and clinical implementation, fostering a rich and forward-looking discussion that resonated strongly with the audience and reinforced the strategic relevance of the final SRIA and Roadmap.

This workshop attracted strong interest from the conference audience and generated active engagement, highlighting the relevance of PROPHET results for public health community and reinforcing the importance of SRIA and the Roadmap as strategic tools to support the future of personalised prevention.

The EPF Congress 2025, dedicated to “Shaping the Future of Healthcare” held on 26–27 November in Brussels, brought together over 200 participants, including policymakers, researchers, industry representatives and patient organisations. The discussions offered a clear picture of the current challenges facing European health systems, but also highlighted opportunities to strengthen preparedness and improve the way health policy is shaped. Key takeaways included the urgent need for Europe to act on emerging threats such as AMR, climate change and misinformation, while ensuring innovation is developed and used responsibly. A strong message throughout the Congress was that patients’ needs must remain at the centre of decision-making, and that patient involvement should be formalised through clear frameworks and supported with proper resources and capacity-building.

The event also underlined the importance of trust and community engagement, and the essential role of young patients in shaping the future of healthcare. During this event, a poster was prepared and presented, introducing the project and its objectives, as well as some key findings.

On 22 January 2026, our PROPHET partner, Cittadinanzattiva (ACN), hosted a 90-minute online session to explore in plain language and with many real-life examples (such as breast cancer, cardiovascular risk, pharmacogenomics), how personalised prevention is changing healthcare – an innovation and a right that will affect every citizen and every family. It also focused on the “genetic/ pharmacogenetic passport”, covering questions such as its definition, how to obtain it and how it can help doctors and patients to choose the most suitable prevention treatment.

The event drew 130+ participants from across Italy, including citizens, patients and volunteers from Cittadinanzattiva’s network. The speakers of the event included Francesco Di Berardino & Antonio Cristiano (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) and Valeria Fava & Daniela Quaggia (Cittadinanzattiva).

Here are some key takeaways from the online event:

  • The Electronic Health Record (FSE) is seen as a key enabler, but it is still under-used or not well understood by both GPs and citizens.
  • Strong appreciation for clear language and concrete examples.
  • High interest in what changes compared with “traditional” prevention, and how to get started in practice.

A participant’s message that captures the overall spirit of the event: “Thank you—this meeting was very interesting. It enriched me and gave me information I will share with others, especially the groups I’m part of… sharing knowledge expands everyone’s toolkit… knowing helps us choose… thanks again.
