Workshop on returning genetic test results with familial consequences in the context of personalised prevention

On Monday 19th of June 2023 and Tuesday 20th of June 2023, a 2-day workshop was held in the historical city of Leuven (Belgium) with an expert panel consisting of several inter-disciplinary stakeholders who are leading work in the area of disclosure of genetic information to family members through research, clinical practice or policy. The workshop was organized in the context of the PROPHET project (Personalised Prevention Roadmap for the future healthcare – Horizon Europe). In particular this workshop aimed to support the development of guidelines for returning genetic test results with familial consequences in the context of personalized prevention. Different approaches that are currently being used in the UK, France, Denmark & Australia were presented and discussed by the expert panel. In addition, in depth discussions were held on the responsibility of patients and/or health care professionals, the possibility of applying a public health approach. A points to consider document – based on the input gained during the workshop – is currently being prepared.
